11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

12/13/24 - Friday the 13th Article Track

I was able to pop a quick track in on a short woods path I found near my house. I did an article track aged a little more than an hour. Mostly a s* show but some good takeaways:


Things to work on:

  1. Her arousal was high from the start - Next time, play some engagement games (touch/toss) before beginning
  2. Don't set an important article near another interesting article (lost jacket at woods exit)
  3. Bait articles to make more interesting - will do baited articles in woods at class tomorrow
  4. She continues to step on, nose, or point an article *in the woods* and wants to keep moving (motion is her reward). When not in woods, she will happily down at articles. 100000% need to do woods article tracks WEEKLY and insist on down.

Things that worked well:

  1. I now have a quick access woods area to play with
  2. Her tracking was good - she was following on footsteps / correct side of trail, etc
  3. Feeding her calmed her! As she worked the turn, her arousal got realllllllly high and she was not indicating the article after an initial "point" on it. I fed for what felt like ages on the article and afterwards - BAM - thoughtful and intentional tracking! (Video 4:50-6:45) There were other moments of arousal near giant leaf piles / trees where squirrels have dug / etc so will continue to give her opportunities to experience and dismiss while working.
  4. She tracked nicely across the road without reinforcement - was surprised by this.

Next time out: 
Baited articles with woods entry/leg @ Class - at least 2 hours old as the article track last class @ 2 hrs seemed a breeze for her (tracking at least....articles were meh).
