11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Get up, out, and work

Goal: Get Evie up and out to novel location to run short tracks and work on getting focused quickly at new location

Location: Field at 4 corners, Salisbury

Weather: ~7:10am before work, cloudy, 43*

Tracks: 2x short Ls: 50 steps / 50 steps with W50F25

Age: 5-10 minutes

Notes:

  • Evie was happy to work. She stayed in the car while I laid the tracks which amped her up a bit but she settled nicely after I got her out.
  • The field was highly contaminated with some trash and animal droppings (saw at least bunny, fox, deer)
  • She hauled down the tracks and took both turns well (overshot but corrected)
  • Stopped at article but didn't seem to want to further indicate it and instead chose to explore the fun on the ground near us. I waited her out and eventually coaxed her to a down at articles.  I think she takes the indication more seriously when she's run a long track rather than a short track and combined with novel location w/other fun stuff to explore, it was a challenge for her. Given the goal was to get her focused and working, I'd say she got a B+ overall - tracked well but didn't nail the articles.
