11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Class TD Practice Track

Track laid ~7am by Judi

Track run ~30-45min age

Crisp morning, grass was frosty

Track: ~450 yd, doghead starting in bowl, Turn 3 in bowl by feeder/trail and some definite cross tracks on Leg 4 that caught her attention

Notes:
  • STRONG & CONFIDENT start. This girl was excited to work - fast tail wags and was jumping to get a start but I held her until she acknowledged the start article. After I released her with an "OK", she was charging up the hill with me jogging after her. She settled into working/methodical mode after 2nd flag.
  • 1st turn: Overshot it a bit - she circled right, then left, then took it and corrected the line. Good girl!
  • 2nd turn: crystal clear LOS and left turn with confident profile on the next leg
  • 3rd turn: a tricky one as there were birds on the leg flying up and we neared the trail edge/animal trail and a feeder. I know my girl and she HAD to check out the feeder so I held feet still and gave her the line to go explore, then she quickly came back to work and took the turn. She initially overshot the turn (feeder was farther than turn) but she corrected back nicely.
  • 4th leg: She caught some interesting animal cross tracks. I initially thought it may be a turn d/t her confident exploration pretty far down the line but then she circled and continued on the other side of me. After a bit she let me know to head forward more before she decided she needed to circle back and mark the cross track.
  • Final turn: Man, this one FELT GOOD! Because she had been circling/exploring behind me (7:50 mark on video), I waited for a bit and as she circled back on the track, I was handling the line behind me. You can't see me in the video, but I was still facing forward with the line behind me when she SNAPPED into the final leg and the leash went from loose to taunt and I could FEEL she had caught that leg and was confidently pulling down it. Video nicely shows her work it.
  • I've noticed the past month or so as she hits the article scent bomb, she slows ever so slightly and starts looking for it so that's a good sign to pay attention to. She found the glove, and Ms PrissyPants downed on the frosty grass happily to get her jackpot of chicken from me when I arrived. Yay for article track practice paying off!
Thankful for all the practice tracks we get as we finish her/me up before trials. I'm definitely feeling more confident in fully reading/trusting her without the positive feedback from tracklayer behind me. Quiet is good!

Not sure who enjoyed it most but we had a blast as a team and she also ran an article track later in the day which resulted in some PREMIUM snuggles that evening from a tuckered out Evie :)
