11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

02/07/24 - Aged Stairstep

Goal - Sharpen up turns with stairstep track with some age (target 60-75 min)

Location:  Robious soccer fields

Weather: 50*, low breeze, sun downing

Time laid: 4:10pm

Age: 70 min

Map: Serpentine version of the "stairstep" exercise from website with increasing difficulty and lessening reinforcement

Notes:

  • I had her wait 10 min near the start to get her to calm and be patient like we may have to do at the trial.
  • After retrieving Evie and returning to the field, there was a dog playing a game of fetch alllll over the track. They were wrapping up so no worries but definitely added some interesting sniffs along the track that Evie HAD to explore understandably.
  • Definitely some erratic sniffing of the contaminated field. I felt like she didn't settle into the work above all else until we got to the 3rd turn and then, BAM - so on it! Thinking back to it now, she downed at the clip before Turn 3 so definitely started locking in there (I fed for the indication).
  • Article indication - FREAKING GORGEOUS!!! As you can hear in the video, I gave her a long line on the last leg to see if she would very independently down at the article and WAIT. Boy did she deliver ❤️- Perhaps the best article indication she's ever given!!
Up next:
  • Working from home the next 2 days in all day zoom jail but plan to get her out Thurs or Fri early and do 2-3 novel locations with a "get out and work" short, fresh track
  • Sat: Class - whatever Judi wants us to do. Thinking a TD practice with a bit more age?
  • Sun: Aged starts
