11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Article tracks + 2 turn blind tracks on a very windy day - Up Up and Away! (01/13/2024)

Location: Robious Athletic Fields

Cover: mowed grass, soggy and muddy after yet more rain last night...
Weather: 44* and sunny; humidity 43%, winds constant 10 mph with swirling gusts 20-25mph
Track goal: Blind 2 turn tracks
Pattern: Walked with SP 20 steps after turn
Length: ~100yds
Tracklayer: Daphne! Her first time laying blind tracks for me and she took it so so seriously and asked great questions about goal of track and options for laying it. Maybe in a year or two she can get a gig as a tracklayer rather than babysitter 😆 She got a big mug of hot cocoa when we returned home

Age: ~15-20 min - Ran it at short age d/t lots of complicated wind patterns and a frozen tracklayer (Didn't want to push it and lose a tracklayer partner)

Track 1: Track was a little on the small side (maybe only 50-75yd total) so we talked about longer legs for next track. I left the cam running and caught the cutest post track analysis ever 😍

Notes:

  • Very windy today and ground saturated - You can hear the wind roaring and Evie's ears are just a-flapping in the wind in the videos


  • Article tracks x 2 - While D laid each track, Evie and I worked an article track on a different field. I think it helped but she was also very interested in the kite being flown (seemed fascinated!) and D had the good good treats for the scent pads so I think Evie was underwhelmed with me overall but she auto-downed about half the time and did a coached down the other times. 
  • Track 1 - Short 2nd leg but she worked it well
  • Track 2, Turn 2 - she over shot it by a good 10 yards but searched behind and was drawn over to the SP
  • Scent pads definitely helped
Overall - A good day, pretty light/easy on difficulty and trying to set us up for a good track day tomorrow!

Next up:
  • Definitely want to do another article track session soon
  • I think we should keep SP in after at least 1 turn to keep her engaged. 
  • TD track for class tomorrow and will see what's next
