11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Gear check!

Prepping for the season and doing a complete check of the gear bag. Some thoughts as I reflect on things I wished I had had last year or things that I felt helpful to have in the gear bag last year.

+ Reflective tape: This year I'm adding reflective tape to my flags since I have to track some in the dark through the winter. I have extra tape if anyone would like a length!
+ First aid kit: I always carry a well stocked first aid kit hiking/ etc and added one to my tracking bag last year. Hopefully won't ever need it but it's there. I bought it from Amazon and it had some co-ban wrap, etc which could be helpful for the pups if injured. It's packed and takes up minimal space in the duffel.  I've got this bag with me at class always if anyone needs something.
+ Extra food/treats: This has saved me several times when I've left the meticulously cut cheese in the fridge 🤦‍♀️ I usually keep a bag of training treats but also have this 3oz sample of kibble from the vet.
+ Layers: Not as important yet but I usually keep some extra warm socks and gloves, etc in the gear bag since mine often get damp in the field.

+ Water bottle: Towards the end of last season,  I indulged on the 27oz Pupflask water bottle and can vouch for it. I love the long deep water cup it folds out to (esp good for larger dogs) and the 2-way valve that will allow undrunk water to be sent back to the bottle. This is working much better than carrying a bowl and water separately and was a big hit with Evie when we tracked in 95* on Labor Day!

Looking for: Something to easily slot flags into when I grab them along the course. Maybe something that can attach to the treat bag belt? The flags don't stay in my pocket well and stick out weirdly. Anyone seen a good solution (homemade even better!) for this?

  1. For flags….a small split ring attached to your vest might do it
