11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Jan 30 - Starts w/ aging

A few missed entries but picking back up here after work trip to Cali. Came to Monday's class to work on starts with aging. 

Location: Judi's hay field

Cover: Short dead grass, some squishy mud

Time: Track laying started at 9:15am. Goal for each track was 30", 45", 60". Actually run at ~47", 44", and 52"

Weather: 45* and warming - mostly sunny, light breeze, 85% humidity

Notes:

  • Overshot article on Track 1 (review maps, also maybe not track when jetlagged and getting flu...right?!?!). Tossed my extra article and she downed on it so we took as info and moved forward.
  • With shorter line on straight legs, she is getting frustrated and runs much better with longer smoother line so will work on this going forward - give her tension to know I'm behind her but not to restrict her.
  • These were her 1st unaugmented turns and first tracks with no food on legs and she did GREAT for both. Turns weren't a 100% sharp but given we've gone from high augmentation w/ scent pads down to nothing in short time, I'm happy with what she showed today.
  • Great initial start but then confused after start article. She would decide to go back to work after looking around for ~30 sec. Per Judi - keep the start articles and this will clean itself up.
  • Aging track - no difference between her normal behavior at 30" vs 60" - keep on adding it!
HW: Do stairstep using more line so she gets confidence on taking 90*. Have 90* truly 90* turns. Do an article track as well.
