11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Feb 4 - 2 turn blind track

Back to the field after a restful week for Evie - no practice as I had the flu.

Location: Judi's hay field

Cover: Cut hay (frozen dew)

Time: TL @ 9:20am, TR @ 9:50am (30" age)

Track layer: Val

Weather: Brisk 18* and sunny, 38% humidity

Track Map:

Notes:

  • How did it feel? Really good - definitely could tell she overshot the turns and with coaching we got back to turn and then she confidently took turns. She had great tracking indications and did much better today out in the field (as did I). Only one food drop in middle of 2nd leg - she seemed unphased by lack of food so I think we're doing well with current walk pattern, minimal food. Out of turns - walk 5, scuff 5.
  • Three things the dog did well?
    • Start (and restart after start article!)
    • Good tracking body language - very confident
    • Better with articles - quicker to down each time and didn't stray past end article
  • Three things to improve:
    • Taking LOS cue quicker and stepping back while she casts parallel so that we step back into the turn lane
    • Article indication
    • We couldn't think of third - good day today!
  • HW/Goal for next track:  Stairsteps with 3-5 turns, 90* each (do 2-3x) and then starts 60", 90", 120"
