11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Feb 18 - Class track w/ dead ends

Class day in the field - goal was to add dead ends to turns today.

Location: Judi’s hay field

Cover: Medium, cut grass - grass frosted when track laid and run

Track layer: Judi

Age: 45 min

Weather: 30* and sunny, light breeze, 65% humidity

Pattern: S5W50F25

Track Map:

450 yards total, 5 turns, w dead ends at turns 3 and 5

Notes:
  • Good start though didn’t have a strong interest in start article like yesterday - preferred to get going on the track
  • Strong tracking, great head snaps, and clear LOS indications today. Several times she would pause to look around, run a zoomie loop and accelerate into the track. She’s always dead on when she accelerates into it so I am learning to anticipate the acceleration and give her the line she wants.
  • Very concerned by a scent she caught on Leg 2 before the food drop (bear?). We let her check her 6 a few times and point the woods and she went back to tracking (followed by much praise).
  • I really like how she problem solved both dead ends - came back to me on her own and caught the next leg scent and charged down it.
  • Again got extremely spooked last 15 yds of track as we neared the hedgerow and jumped back several times. She kept going back to track thankfully but could see the wheels spinning a bit. Made it to the article with lots of love.
  • Overall, very happy with our run today ❤
Tracking video:  That head snap @ 8:15 😍

We will continue our rotation of training for next 2 weeks with only 1 food drop per leg and then work down to every other leg with food.
