11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Jan 7 - Class

Class day

Location: Judi's hayfield

Cover: medium dry grass

Time: run at ~30" age

Track layer: Ralph

Weather: Sunny and warm, very dry air, breezy

Track map:

Notes:

  • Great start
  • Note from Judi: let out line a few inches when she goes then walk. I've been holding on the handle loop of 6' line and haven't been able to give her that slack on restarts so this is something I'll keep on my mind and I start working the long line more.
  • Very good, confident turns. First turn was 90*L. She went a bit more acute initially (maybe 85*) but found scent pad and we realigned and when right up track. She was very excited about hot dogs so her stops along that leg were nice confirmations we had the line since we didn't have a flag on Leg 2.
  • Great 2nd turn open left.
  • She stopped at article but didn't down (wasn't baited). Definitely track happy and wanted to keep going! We'll continue working on article indications, particularly novel articles.
  • New pattern for today's track of S10W15F7-8
  • HW: Start 3 turn tracks. If doing 3 turn track, only 1 track/session. Also do some sessions as 2x 2-turn tracks to mix it up.
