11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Jan 1 - Muddy Mayhem

I went to Tucker Park, forgetting it had rained a few days prior. It was ankle deep mud with lots of standing water in puddles. But since I had driven there, we went ahead and did the work!

Location: Tucker Park

Cover: dead grass with lots of mud (ankle deep at times), large standing water puddles up to 1”

Time: tracks laid at 2:25pm, run at 30min

Track layer: self

Weather: 65* and sunny

Track maps:

Notes:

  • The soggy ground made it quite clear where my tracks which was nice when we ran the tracks
  • Evie was slower and more thoughtful with the tracks today because of the ground. She really thought with the puddles ( I had the track across a few short lengths of puddles but put extra reinforcements on the far side). The scent pads helped today for sure.
  • Good starts and turns today. She paused at articles but didn’t want to fully down.
  • She treated the extra turn like she’s always done them - wasn’t thrown off by having more difficulty between the start and article.
  • For myself - I really focused on shoulders back/ sitting into the line so I wouldn’t end up in the mud :)
  • Overall, a great session and a beautiful start to 2023!
