11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Dec 31 - Soybean field

At class, we tried the soybean field. I laid a long/short 1 turn track with open right turn.

Cover: cut soybean field, damp ground

Weather: 52*, light wind, foggy - dense but lifting

Time: Track laid 8:25, run at 9:25 (1 hr)

Pattern: shortened to S5W5F3 due to field

Tracklayer: self

Notes
  • Evie wasn’t bothered by the pokey soybean field ( she has off road tires for paws)
  • This was her oldest track so far - 1 hr - and she had a nice start. She was done waiting and anxious to finally work.
  • Just prior to turn, she got very distracted by something to the left but once she was done giving it attention, she finished track and took turn with confidence, scarfing down the scent pad along the way.
  • Need to remember shoulders back and “sit” into pull so that I can slow her some.
  • HW: start 2 turn tracks this week. May do a 2 turn or a 1 turn blind at next class
  • Afterwards, I got to handle Saber on her TDX track - too much fun! First time working a long line, other dog, woods/TDX track - a challenge but a cool preview into where our current work can lead to!
