11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Dec 25 - Operator error

Today was about making more Left turns

Location: Robious Athletic Fields

Field: Dead short grass in soccer field. Frozen moist ground - frozen in shade but defrosting and muddy in sun

Temp: 30* and sunny

Time: 1:30pm, tracks run at ~30’

Track layer= me, video by my Dad visiting from Tx!

Plan: 6xS10W5F5 - left turn - S10- scent pad - S10 - article. T1 and T3 open L turns, T2 as a 90* L turn.

Notes

  • Post title says it all - Evie tracked well but I as the operator failed each turn. I either let her turn too early or I took several steps past turn and had to back track.
  • On T1, I took the turn too early and she corrected me and got us back over to the scent pad on Leg 2 and finished the track. On other turns, once I walk back a few steps, she nailed the turns and 2nd legs.
  • She’s ploughing down Leg 1 so hard that we both miss the turns. At next session, I will definitely review my map and take extra notes (exact # steps after flag to turn) before each start flag. I’ll also slow her down a bit as we close in on the turn flag.
  • Video excerpt for Track 1 below. (Other 2 videos got glitchy)
