11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Dec 23 - Soggy Windy Fun

Continuing this week's theme but making L turns.

Location: Huguenot Park

Field: Dead short grass in soccer field. Wet, soggy ground

Temp: 26* and dropping (real feel temp of 8*!) - winds *very very* gusty - SW 24 mph

Time: 2:15 pm, tracks run at ~20'

Track layer= me 

Plan: 3x S10W5F5 - left turn - S5 - scent pad - S10 - article. T1 and T3 open L turns, T2 as a 90* L turn. Kept first legs shorter today because of gusts - wanted success on Leg 1 before Turns so we could focus on the turns. Also laid heavier scuffs to really leave a strong track given the wind.

Notes: 

  • Not sure why I thought today would be a challenge - given how fast the gusts were, she acted like the track was stronger because any scent lifted was carried away quickly leaving a clean, heavy track for her. 
  • No signs of L vs R confusion as we switched directions today. Clean L turns each time.
  • She enjoyed the scent pads on all 3 tracks today.
  • Did some treat/glove toss games after she ate the T3 glove jackpot and dropped her more treats on the glove if she re-indicated it.

Today's our 1 year anniversary of bringing home puppy Evie (her namesake came from bringing her home on the eve of Christmas Eve). For fun, a video taken 2 minutes after she arrived home last year. Clearly at peace with her new environment and big bro Oliver still lets her tug and chew all over him a year later :)

    So she’s been sweet since day 1! Love it. I’m thrilled the scent pads have gotten her past the ‘I can’t make a decision’ hump. Feel free to move them out a couple of yards if you think she’s confident enough to keep looking for them. Good work!
