11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Dec 20 - Christmas came early!

Dec 20 session

Time: 4:15pm

Weather: 41*, winds N 2mph

Location: Robious Athletic Fields, dry/dead grass

Tracks: laid by me, run 15-20 min old

Plan

  • 3 tracks, all R turns.
  • T1 & T3 open turns, T2 as 90* turn. After each turn, S5 then scatter treats in a scent pad before continuing second leg.
  • I did each track same pattern length of 5x S10W10F5 then S10 to turn, S5 out of turn, scent pad, S10, article.
Notes:

  • T1 and T3 went pretty cleanly. She hit the corner and dove for the scent pad before continuing correctly on second leg. Excerpt from T3 video at end.
  • We overran the turn on T2 ( she was running hot and I missed my line up). When I walked back a few steps, she caught the corner and dove for the scent pad and finished well.
  • Big news and my early Christmas present - Evie surprised me and auto downed every article! She’s never downed in the field without an assist/guided push down. Today she did it on all and waited for me to come empty out the glove. Happy dance!!!
  • Plan for tomorrow- run same plan (distance/pattern, open/90/open - all Right turns) at different location and focus on 90* track.
