11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Dec 12 - More R turns

Temp - mid 30s at 6pm, dark with dim streetlights, worked w headlamp

Location - Robious athletic fields

Field - dead grass/dirt and lots of acorn debris

Plan - 3 tracks with open R turns. Put flags 5’ before turn and give lead when flag reached on track.

We went to a new location (Robious Athletic Fields) as I thought they may be lit at night (I was wrong, boo). Being in a new place at night definitely put her on a heightened alert and was a little distracting but she worked through it ok - will keep this in rotation for things to train through.

She had trouble focusing (def a lot of unfocused energy after work) but was starting to focus better on 2nd track. Each time she clearly indicated loss of scent and circled right each time. On the second leg, she didn’t hold the line as tight and think it had may be the “reorientation” needed - will work on slowing her down on second leg as she starts to develop confident turns. Right now I want to put the energy on taking the turn rather than confusing her by being more picky about the line. We’ll do one more R turn practice then pivot (ha) to left turns.

Tomorrow I’ll take her out to track in the morning when we have some time in the daylight.
