11/29/25 - Woods bounce-offs and parallels

After her strong interest to go into vs away from woods last class day, I asked Mary Ann to lay a track that parallels woods and does bounce-offs from woods. Mary Ann nailed the assignment (and shout out to Kelley who co-laid and was MVP for double lineups!). We ran the track at 1hr 15min old. Notes - what went well: Great start and 1st turn on the rails! Her article indications were really nice today.  I think our slowed down routine at articles is slowing her down and keeping energy / excitement from running wild. She feels more measured at restarts now. Turns - She was really clear to read on all with the exception of the last turn. In reviewing video, she gave a head turn at the final turn before going forward a little and then looking at woods.  Line work was good today - getting back up the line quickly + a behind the back line work on the final turn - felt like I supported her well when she committed.  She drank well before start and at articles Notes - To work on:...

Nov 18 - Night tracking

Location: field by Salisbury Presby, dry short grass

Temp: 43*

Plan: Because of some events + rain this week, practice was sparse so I wanted to set Evie up for success. We went back to a prior place she did well at. The first track was laid ~5:10pm and we ran them around 5:30pm with a headlamp.

  • T1: "Warm-up" track - S20F@2
  • T2: S40F@2
  • T3: S50F@2
  • T4: S60F@2

Notes

  • As we started running the tracks, the boy scout troop came to load/unload a shed near our start. She was mildly distracted and preferred to work (yay!).
  • We tracked right after work so she had a lot of energy and it took her until ~ 1/2 way down Track 2 to focus sharper.
  • T3 (S50F@2) was her longest track prior so set that between one shorter and longer. She did the first 50 well of T4 and then headlights/shadows on a nearby fence spooked her. I gave her a beat to calm and encouraged her to refocus and continue which she did. If not, I would have thrown an article and partied on the spot.
  • Assisted downs at all articles. At T4 article when she was done eating, I tossed the face mask a few feet and she went and pounced on it again.
  • Overall, happy with her performance given short break in training. She had great drive and stayed on top of tracks.
